Water and Leakage sensor - where to put it

11/16/2024 Leakage sensor water pipes

A leakage sensor for water pipes is a new invention to detect burst pipes, risks of legionella (bacteria) and risks of frozen pipes. You may therefore wonder where to put it. In this blog, we show you some examples and ideas.

First, some general tips:

  1. Place the Leakage sensor on the water pipe supplying your house with fresh water
  2. The sensor will detect water flowing through that pipe, and into all other connecting pipes for toilets, bath, kitchen, and also in walls, floors, concrete, etc.
  3. The best location is where your water meter is located - then all pipes are monitored in your home, even the hidden ones.
  4. If the water pipe is metal and thin, then you will get the best detection. Thick and isolated pipes may be less precise.

The leakage sensor can be mounted with rubber band or strips. With a rubber band, you can easily find space on the water pipe and later move it. With strips, it is firmly attached.

Rubber bands may become less elastic over time. If that happens, then the sensor will not touch the pipe surface and may report false detections, warnings or less precise measurements.

Put it close to the water meter

If you can locate your water meter, then place it on a pipe going out from that. All other fresh-water pipes are supplied from here, and you will therefore detect leaks anywhere in your home with this single device.

How to find the best pipe?

The good place is difficult to spot on this picture. If you start to look for the water meter in the center of the picture, then a very good place for the leak sensor is on the pipe just to the right of it.
